You should be able to set some animations to run immediately as one step rather than automatically adding a second step to run animations. That way if you have fade in or slide animations on objects you don't have to press the next button twice.

I need to be able to move objects. In particular, I desperately need to be able to move objects from OFF a slide onto the slide. I do this when presenting and giving participants a handout. I want them to write in some key words of the presentation (for retention) so I want to print without that text. In Keynote I have the text off screen then move it and animate it in. Works great and is super useful.
